Hi Sean,
I think all the information on the person details page for John Cree
http://cree.one-name.net/person.htm?id=1376 hang together and support each other. The burial register records his death and burial in December 1794 and says he was aged 75 years. This puts his birth in 1719 (or the last week of 1718). We have matched him therefore to the baptism record of a John Crie on 19 January 1718 in Newburgh, Fife. An age at death error of 12 months is not at all unusual for a man in his 70s whose wife and several children had died some time earlier. This partly depends on their being no other birth record in that period. Trevor might confirm this.

I have further circumstantial evidence, mostly showing connections with the Abrenothey area, whcih I will collate shortly.
Best Wishes,
Mike

Sean,

I think that it is just about possible although we have John Crie being born 11th February 1760 (mother Jean Keiller alive) and yet John Crie marries Janet Kidd on the 24th May 1760. Clearly Jean Crie (Keiller) could have died in childbirth but it is very soon after her possible death for John Crie to have married again. So far on Cree.name Mike has John Crie marrying firstly Janet Kidd and later Janet Young (Cree ID 2346).

Sean,

I have now found the two references to the marriage and banns of Jean Crie and David Burgess in 1779 that as you say seems to indicate that Jean Crie was living in Kinnoull.

Sean,

I have just sent quite a detailed response to your question and it is certainly quite involved. We seem to have three John Crie who are millers in Perth at that time but one of them seems to have married twice. I have contacted Mike to see if his expertise can help.

Welcome to Sean and all of the others who have recently joined the Cree Family History Network. The sister website (http://www.cree.name) that Mike has done so much to develop over the years is an essential source of information for Cree family history.
