Cree Family History Network

The search for your Cree, Crie, Crea, Cre, Crey and Chree origins

My name is Maureen Rushe and I live in Belfast, N.Ireland. I am the granddaughter of George Cree who was born on 19/5/1907. My grandfather died on 15/1/1971 and is buried with his wife Bridget Cree nee Mc Ateer in Milltown cemetery, in Belfast.

They had 2 children, Mary Colette, my mother and George. They are both still alive.

I am currently researching my grandfather George's older brother William who was born in 1892. I have found that he served with the Royal Engineers during WW1. He married Charlotte Maud Jones on 1/5/1917 per his war records. He went to live in England after his medical discharge due to a shell wound but was not heard from again.

I am delighted to join the Cree site and look forward to finding out more.

Trevor,

Thanks for your very detailed response. The information is much appreciated and I am sure my uncle George will find it very enlightening. I will post any other details I uncover.

Maureen,

Welcome to the Cree Family History Network and many thanks for the information that you have provided. As you indicate William Cree's war records show that he married Charlotte Maud Kate Jones (spinster) at St Jame's, Hampstead, on the 1st May 1917. I have found the marriage certificate on Ancestry and it shows both of them living at 69 George Street and William's occupation as soldier and whose father was William Cree, Foreman. Charlotte's father was Henry William Jones, Postman.

The London Electoral Register shows William Cree at 69 George Street, St Pancras in 1920, 1921, and 1929. The London Electoral Register for 1927 shows Charlotte Maud Kate Cree at 69 George Street, Euston polling district, but no sign of a William Cree. In 1935 she is found at 4 Austin Road, Battersea, Wandsworth and a William Cree is also shown, presumably her husband.

Looking at my Cree Volume 1 I have found the death of Charlotte M. K. Cree between January - March 1968, aged 72 years, in the district of Kingston upon Thames. The death certificate could be obtained using the previous information and adding Volume 5C and Page 1075. The certificate might provide a relation present at death etc.

There is the death of William Cree between January - March 1954, aged 61 years (approx 1893) in Surrey North, Volume 5G, Page 494. This is confirmed by the probate of William Cree of 126 Fullers Way, Hook, Surbiton, Surrey, died 24 February 1954 at Surbiton Hospital. Surbiton. Administration London, 29 March to Charlotte Maud Kate Cree, widow. Effects £249 9s 4d.

In Cree Volume 1 there is the birth of a Winifred M Cree between October - December 1919 in Pancras, mother's maiden name Jones, Volume 1B, Page 39. There is also the birth of Sidney A W Cree between October - December 1921 in Pancras, mother's maiden name Jones, Volume 1B, Page 16. The death of a Sidney Alexander W Cree was registered in August 1996, age 74 years, birth date 28 September 1921, registration district Surrey mid-Eastern. Also the birth of Iris E Cree between July - August 1929 in Pancras, mother's maiden name Jones, Volume 1B, Page 10. An Iris E Cree married William J Blair between January - March 1952 in Surrey Northern district, Volume 5 G, Page 743. I believe that there is a good chance that the above mentioned could be the children of William Cree and Charlotte Jones although I cannot be certain.
