Hi Cheryl,
I'm descended from line 17, the Newtownards line and line 19, the Robert Cree Sr. Line of PA. Robert Cree Sr. and Janet Hamilton were my 6th great grandparents. They were both born in County Down, Ireland. Their son James married Isabella. They had a daughter, Margaret who married Isaac Barrett. Their son, Abner, was born in Monroe Co., OH in 1813. He married Mary Ann Winland. Their daughter, Mary Ann married James Marion Goosman.
Their daughter, Viola, was born in Washington Co., OH in 1884. She married Owen Thomas Wells. Their daughter, my grandmother Ethel Mae, was born in 1910 in Northfield, Summit Co., OH.

Hi Cheryl

Archibald Cree b 1828 had a brother Thomas Cree b 1832....Thomas married a Maragret McCluskey at the Low Church in Kimarnock and this is where the existing Cree line in Ayrshire really branches out. The Low Church is Church of Scotland (Presbyterian) however it appears that after the marriage all the siblings were Roman Catholic. My mother who is a Cree is Roman Catholic as it would appear most of the remaining Cree's in Ayrshire and Lanarkshire.

We are both of the Perth Line of Cree's but the reality is, both branches  - Aberfeldy and Perth are probably well related. There isn't really a great deal of distance between both and there are many from the Perth line that are born in close viscinity to Aberfeldy.

Oh yes.... I am the MARTIN5 on My Heritage although I have not updated in some time.....I do intend to get back to it at some time for my fathers line....the Martin's. My Martin line is rather sketchy as I can only trace back to circa 1780 to the island of Islay in Argyllshire however this is where knowledge of the Clan system does help. MARTIN is a sept of CAMERON or MACDONALD and as my line goes back to the islands it is decidedly MACDONALD. The Martin's were a very strong family in the islands and were known as a Clan within a Clan and there is moves afoot to have a formal CLAN MARTIN which for many reasons I am not comfortable with as I prefer the stsus quo as I a traditionalist.

The Martins on the Scottish Islands were a considerable force and were known as "sliochd nan sionnach - clann Mhartain" - Race of the Foxes - Clan Martin. This was due to their cunning and ability to cheat.....My Dad's brother married a woman from the Isle of Lewis and Muriel constsntly reminds us all that we are "Foxes". I speak little of the Scottish Gaelic (only 1% of Scots do) but the Gaelic culture is so different from the what is perceived as Scottish culture.

At the present time I am researching for a book which I hope will be published next year and as I am retired I have lots of free time to travel the country. The subject matter is traditional Scottish Lifting Stones. My late Father (also Peter Martin) had a book published in California called "Of Stones and Strength" in 1996 and it is still selling. What I am doing is basically a follow up but it will contain far more history and culture. This is what detracts me from updating MARTIN 5 at the present time as quite simply I have so little time.

I don't know where you stay Cheryl but the likes of Symington and Riccarton are only minutes from my home in Prestwick. If you wand or need photo's please let me know,,,I have visited the graveyard at Riccarton but it was that long ago I really can't remember if I gleaned any information from the visit.

Just as an aside...Your links to the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders....in 1981 I had an interview at Stirling Castle (the regimental HQ) to join the regiment as an officer.....the following year I joined the Police Service instead but I often wonder if I had made the correct decision.

Hope this finds you well/

HI Cheryl

It looks like my husband's Cree line comes from the same Archibald Cree. William McMinn Cree is a brother of James.

We were in Scotland recently and at the Argyll and Sutherlanders museum - my husband's Uncle John was also in the A&S - long family tradition.
