Further information regarding George Frederick Valentine Cree and Mary Gordon Atkinson (,Line 17)

Hi

My name is Andrew Thomas Nelson born 9th December 1957 and I have some information to update line 17.

George Frederick Valentine Cree and Mary Gordon Atkinson had a daughter called Mary who passed away in 1999. I'm not sure when she was born but I can find this out from my mother as Mary Cree, the daughter of George F.V. Free and Mary Gordon Atkinson was my grandmother on my mother's side.

My grandmother, Mary Cree married Norman Howie from Shankill Road, Belfast .

Their daughter, Sarah Beatrice Howie, who married Andrew Thomas Nelson is my mother.

I never knew George Frederick Valentine Cree as he died before I was born but I did know my great grandmother, Mary Gordon Atkinson, a lovely warm hearted lady, very well as she lived almost facing my grandparents and I used to go in and out of her house a lot when I was visiting my grandparents. She lived until I was in my teens.

I hope this is of some help to you.

Many thanks for your posting, Andrew. I can tell you that Mary Cree was born on 17 Oct 1914. This is from the Cree birth indexes which I extracted at GRONI, Chichester St, Belfast. Although I have extracted deaths, hers is not in my list as she will have been registered as Howie. If you have the exact date and place of her death I will add this to the Cree Genealogy Database.

Her marriage to Norman Howie was on 25 Dec 1934 at St Michaels Church of Ireland.

I have updated the Database. The online version at http://cree.one-name.net/genealogies/ . Her Cree ID is 10089. This will enable you to find her details quickly.

Thank you for your reply. I have just telephoned my mother and she thinks her mother died on July 24th 1999 but is not 100% sure this is the exact date. When she can confirm this she will let me know and I will pass it on to you. In the meantime I can answer what I already know. My grandmother Mary died in Mahon House, Portadown and is buried in Kernan Cemetery, Portadown, County Armagh here in Northern Ireland.

Hi Andrew,

Thanks for the additional information about your family. I have added it to the Database, but your mother's confirmation of that date would be useful.

I know Mahon House well as an elderly friend of my wife lived there until her death a couple of years ago. We also know Seagoe and Kernan Cemeteries as my wife has some relatives buried there. At our age (mid-70s) we start to realise we have more friends dead than alive.

My wife was born in Scarva Co. Down and we both lived in Portadown as teenagers and went to Portadown College. We visit most years staying with friends in Tanderagee and Ahory.

Best Wishes,

Mike Spathaky
