Cree Family History Network

The search for your Cree, Crie, Crea, Cre, Crey and Chree origins

Hi All,

Seeking clarity and help if possible.  So my mothers maiden name is Cree from Lisburn.  I had started looking into my family tree.  I stumbled upon Samuel Raymond Cree, play writer from Lisburn.  My Uncle is not quite sure if Samuel Raymond Cree is my Grandfathers 1st or 2nd cousin.  He had stated that he had been sent a photograph to which he has recently found.  The photograph would be my mothers and uncles Great Great Grandparents - on the back it says William and Mary Cree.  I am really keen on finding out a lot more, on the forum I have seen a trail that goes way back to William Cree (Farmer) Lisburn and links back through Scotland.  My uncle has stated there had been talks when they were younger of family origins in Scotland.  I have been on ancestry.com and recently completed the dna test, just awaiting back the results to obtain both my Mothers and Fathers family history.  Doing the research myself has been exciting but I am missing a few links and would love to confirm all by seeing pictures and visiting gravesides out of respect.  I would love to see how they lived, what they did and how they pushed through this world to be where we are today.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Surnames I know that is linked also would be Gillespie and Dodds.  if you would like to see the picture of William and Mary Cree please feel free to ask.  After all they could be a picture no one has seen before or a piece to their puzzle that could finally be completed.

Mothers maiden name: cree - LIsburn

Fathers name: Connor - Lisburn

Many Thanks

Neal,

The fact that you have taken a family history DNA test should really help you understand more about both your Connor and Cree origins. As you know your paternal line (Connor) should help you match up with a lot of male individuals on the Ancestry DNA database with the Connor surname and that will help you make some direct family connections that you might not have known about. I am not knowledgeable on maternal DNA but I guess that it will help you trace your Cree mother's mother's mother's mother etc. who will clearly have changing surnames as you go back in time. Mike is the expert on DNA.

From a Cree point of view I guess what would be very helpful would be if you could provide the names of your mother's Cree father and mother, and perhaps your Cree Great Grandfather's name and that of his wife. That should allow us to connect into the Cree information that we have for Lisburn and the surrounding areas such as Bangor, Newtownards etc. Sam Cree was a very popular playwright.

Not quite sure if your uncle is a Cree or a Connor but the fact that he has an old photograph of a William and Mary Cree is very fortunate indeed. We have a William Cree (Cree ID 9457) who married a Mary Harriet Gill on the 12th August 1870 in Lisburn and the initial assumption is that this may be your William and Mary? William Cree died on the 3rd April 1922. It would seem that they only had one son and a daughter and the son's name was George Cree (1871-1945) who married Mary McNeill. However this may not be the correct connection and so the information that you have on your Cree grandfather and his wife is  important. You are welcome to upload the photograph of William and Mary Cree if you wish and that might help in making the connections.

Look forward to hearing about your progress.

Trevor.

Hey Trevor

Greatly appreciate your response.  Yeah, fantastic, exactly why I really want to get everything in line and matched up :-).

Certainly.  My Uncle is Paul Cree, Mother would have been Deborah Cree.

Their Father (my Grandfather) was Alan John Perry Cree

Alan John Perry Cree - Father - William Cree   - Mother Sarah Cree ( maiden name Dodds)

In regards to the picture I think this is very possible to who this would be.  On the back it says William and Mary Cree (Gill). This would tie in well.  It would be great to link this all up and potentially find their church of marriage, what they worked as, where they lived and their gravesides of course.   I appreciate that this will all take time but it would be a fantastic way of looking back with each piece being put together.  I will certainly upload the picture.

Kind Regards

Neal

Hiya, Neal!

You may find more information about William and Mary Cree at http://cree.one-name.net/person.htm?id=9457 and about Samuel Raymond Cree at http://cree.one-name.net/person.htm?id=9765. On each page look at the gold "Pedigree" button near the top and click on any gold text to follow links to further relatives. Samuel and William are second cousins twice removed. HOH.
