Annabelle,

You probably already know but Newtownards is about the same distance from the townland of Ballycastle that borders the Mount Stewart estate. In the Public Records Office of Northern Ireland there is the 1775 map of John Cree's tenanted land as it was later divided between himself, James Cree and John McGinn. Also in Movilla Abbey graveyard in Newtownards there is the gravestone of Robert Cree who died in 1756 and his son James Cree who died in 1800 'late of Ballycastle'. And so the Cree ancestry certainly goes back a long way in your area.

Thank you very much for sharing this photograph.  George Cree is my great great grandfather and have not seen not seen a picture of him.    He is as my great grandfather as well as Annabelle's but my grandfather was Samuel Cree, Andrews brother.

Hello John

Thank you very much for sharing this photograph.  George Cree is my great great grandfather and this is the first time I have seen a photograph of him.

My grandfather Andrew Cree was the son of George F V Cree and Annie Topping (His first wife)  Both Annie and Andrew died very young and so my knowledge of the Cree family history was sparse and photographs non-existent.

I live in Newtownards Co Down N.Ireland.  I grew up in Belfast and thought that I was the first member of our family to move to Newtownards.  Can you imagine my surprise when I discovered that I live around 2 miles from Ballybarnes and that the road outside the farm at Ballybarnes is called Cree's Corner?  (My maiden name was Cree)

Thank you again for sharing the photograph.
